De Thaise Koning heeft 90 grote zakken hondenvoer en 10 zakken kattenvoer ( goed voor 2 ton ) aan hondenasiel Soi Dog Foundation gedoneerd voor 1.300 zwerfdieren

‎Zijne Majesteit Koning Maha Vajiralongkorn heeft een grote hoeveelheid honden- en kattenvoer gedoneerd aan Soi Dog Foundation – evenals een aantal andere dierenwelzijnsorganisaties – ter gelegenheid van de verjaardag van Chao Khun Phrasinat Philas Kalayanee Kalayani, zijn koninklijke adellijke gemalin.‎

‎In totaal werden 90 grote zakken hondenvoer en 10 zakken kattenvoer – goed voor twee ton – dankbaar ontvangen door Soi Dog, wiens asiel momenteel meer dan 1.300 dieren huisvest.‎

‎De stichting verstrekt ook voedsel aan zwerfvoeders en, waar nodig, aan dieren die door rampen zijn ontheemd, zoals de overstromingen in Nakhon Sri Thammarat eind vorig jaar.‎

‎Zijne Majesteit schonk ook voedsel aan het nabijgelegen Phuket Stray Dog Shelter in Thalang. Het asiel – vaak aangeduid als het "overheidshonden pond" - wordt beheerd door Phuket veehouders en ondersteund door het Provinciaal Bureau van Phuket en lokale administratieve organisaties.‎

‎Soi Dog biedt al lang hulp bij de renovatie van het asiel en de sterilisatie, vaccinatie en behandeling van de honden die daar gehuisvest zijn.‎

‎"We waarderen de koninklijke voedseldonatie ten zeerste", zegt Kiranee Narabal, voorzitter van Soi Dog Foundation Thailand. "Het ontvangen van de donatie betekent dat Zijne Majesteit zich bewust is van het zwerfdierprobleem en ook ons werk en het werk van andere organisaties erkent."‎

‎Het was niet de eerste keer dat Soi Dog zo'n donatie ontving. Ook in juli 2017 en mei 2019 schonk Zijne Majesteit dierenvoer aan de stichting.‎

‎"Zijne Majesteit stuurt een positieve boodschap naar ons allemaal, om zijn voorbeeld te volgen en om medeleven te tonen aan alle dieren, in dit geval de zwerfhonden," zei medeoprichter en voorzitter van Soi Dog Foundation International John Dalley ten tijde van de eerdere donaties. ‎

‎"Daarbij volgt hij het voorbeeld van zijn vader, die hetzelfde deed. We hopen dat dit zo doorgaat."‎

In recent weeks, over 3,000 dogs and cats were rounded up as a result of a rabies scare and incarcerated in a facility that simply cannot cope. 1,800 animals have already died and the situation for the survivors remains critical. Last week, our Director of Animal Welfare visited with a veterinary team and medical supplies. She was shocked by what she found. There were hardly any medical supplies or drugs available, including those necessary for humane euthanasia of suffering animals for whom nothing more could be done. Our veterinary team has now stocked the facility with the necessary medication, including the drugs required for humane euthanasia where necessary. We have vaccinated all the animals and started them on life-saving medical treatment. We have committed to providing more medical supplies as they are needed, but we urgently need your help. Dear Erna, What would you do if you found a dog in such horrifically neglected condition that it was barely recognisable as a dog? I already know the answer. You would immediately help it, as your ongoing support helps countless suffering animals every day.  Flute was found by a kind lady who spotted him struggling to walk along a busy road. His fur was so matted, filthy, and overgrown that it was weighing him down and poor Flute was staggering under his heavy burden. The lady followed Flute in an attempt to help him, but Flute was terrified and took off, hiding in some bushes at the side of a busy road. That’s when she took this picture and sent it to us. When our Animal Rescue Officer arrived on the scene, people in the area told him that Flute had appeared there overnight and they had never seen him before. He had clearly been dumped. Flute arrived at our shelter as a trembling ball of neglect. His fur was matted and filthy, with a terrible smell. The vets began to cut away at his dirty coat and gently bathed the red and inflamed skin that revealed itself underneath. Flute was started on medical treatment, given a nourishing meal, and a soft bed to sleep in. You made all of this possible. Erna, your support has changed the world for poor, suffering Flute, as it does for so many others.  Today, after weeks of medical treatment and lots of TLC, he is a transformed dog. I want to show you this short video so you can see what you’ve done for a scared and abandoned little boy. I hope you are proud of everything you achieve for animals like Flute.
