Aurora werd als baby uit Marokko gesmokkeld en kwam op opmerkelijke wijze bij een tankstation in Spanje terecht. Ruim zes jaar geleden stopte daar een auto met pech. Geld om de auto te laten maken, had eigenaar niet. Wél had hij een babyaapje en de ruil was snel gemaakt.
In de jaren die volgden, zat Aurora vastgeketend aan een vies, klein hondenhok. Ze had geen soortgenootjes om mee te spelen; haar enige maatje was een hangbuikzwijntje dat daar rondscharrelde. Uit wanhoop probeerde Aurora hem te vlooien.
Inmiddels is Aurora veilig in AAP Primadomus. Hier kan ze in alle rust herstellen van haar verleden. Ze heeft echter nog een lange weg te gaan: Haar heupen en benen blijken bijvoorbeeld erg zwak. Niet zo vreemd, als je bedenkt dat ze nooit heeft kunnen klimmen en springen…

Primadomus Spain
Primadomus is the Spanish headquarters of the AAP Foundation.
Primadomus lies 7, 5 km to the south of the town of Villena (arround 35.000 inhabitants) in the Alicante region, at the foot of the Sierra de Salinas. In recent years, Primadomus has developed into a fully CITES-accredited shelter facility in the Southwestern part of Europe. Because Primadomus has its own quarantine facility, the entire acceptance- and shelter process can carried out on site [link to Quarantine].
We currently provide shelter and housing for various groups of primates at Primadomus, amongst them chimpanzees, Barbary macaques and baboons. Some of the inhabitants at Primadomus are very hard or impossible to relocate, so they are allowed to live out their days under the Spanish sun. Due to its vast space and natural environment, the terrain is very suitable for permanent housing.
Primadomus is still in a stage of development.
