SAVING WILDLIFE IN STUNNING MAHARASHTRA The state of Maharashtra crosses the Western Ghat mountains, one of the world’s hotspots of biodiversity. Working with villagers dwelling near these forests is crucial to leopard conservation. Wildlife SOS teaches communities to coexist with wildlife, while rescuing leopards who are impacted by manmade dangers. MIR FIRST J&K WOMAN TO WIN PRESTIGIOUS AWARD Aaliya Mir became the first woman from Jammu & Kashmir to receive an award for efforts towards wildlife conservation in the region. The prestigious award was presented to her by Lt. Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Manoj Sinha, at an event organised for the occasion. NOCTURNAL RESIDENTS OF DELHI'S SKIES While Delhi’s skies are mostly ruled by birds during the day, the nights belong to bats. Delhi is home to 13 species of bats, both insectivorous and fruit bats. The most commonly seen include the Indian Flying fox, Short-nosed fruit bat, Fulvous fruit bat, Mouse-tailed bat, Indian Pipistrelle and Least pipistrelle. INJURED SHIKRA TREATED AND RELEASED The shikra is a small bird of prey in the family that includes eagles, kites, harriers, hawks and Old world vultures. This bird suffered from fractures of the radius and ulna bones in his right wing, so our team was thrilled to see a full recovery and release the feathered aviator back into the wild. Go Shikra! SUZY, THE ELDEST PACHYDERM AT ECCC Suzy turns 73 this year! She receives specialised geriatric supervision so she can withstand the onslaught of age-related infirmities. Knowing the importance of activity to Suzy’s wellbeing, her caregiver ensures she feels at ease and is content by providing her with treats during her daily walks.
