Animal Heroes Foundation Netherlands are rescuing hundreds of pets abandoned by fleeing families in Lebanon ( video )

Since the outbreak of the war in Lebanon, countless pets have been abandoned by fleeing families. Many animals are trapped in abandoned homes — often without food or water.

Our local partner, Give Me a Paw, has received 379 reports of trapped animals.

Rescue teams have already  been able to free 93 animals  and distribute more than 1,700 kilos of food in the affected areas. But hundreds of animals remain trapped. For them, it is literally a race against time.

We have been supporting animals in Lebanon since the outbreak of the war in October 2023. Together with local partners and our fantastic donors, we have already helped thousands of animals with food and medical care. But the misery just doesn't end.

The name says it all, Animal Heroes is about animal heroes, people who care for animals in need in the harshest of circumstances. Often these people are invisible to the world. They devote themselves at risk to injured, traumatized and neglected animals. All the while they can often barely make ends meet themselves.

Animal Heroes exists to make animal heroes visible and to help them with concrete emergency aid – together with you.

How does Animal Heroes work?

First, we don't have donors, we have fans! It may sound a bit strange, but we not only focus on the animal heroes and their animals, but also you as a fan!

We dare to come out honestly for that, because we think it is important to let you as a fan know how your donation helps animals. We have built a very smart system for this.

Animals Lebanon werkt aan een betere dierenwelzijns wetgeving..... Mooie dia voorstelling

In Libanon is het leven op dit moment niet bepaald gemakkelijk.

De bevolking gaat gebukt onder grote problemen: een politieke crisis, een economische crisis en een 'vuilniscrisis'.

Gelukkig is er een sterk, actief netwerk van mensen die zich inzetten voor dierenwelzijn. Zij laten gemeenschapsleiders en het algemene publiek op een andere manier naar dieren kijken.

Animals Lebanon heeft het dierenwelzijn in Libanon verbeterd, door te lobbyen voor betere wetgeving op dit gebied. En hoewel ze vooral op dit vlak actief zijn, helpen ze ook geredde dieren. Ze verlenen medische zorg en zorgen voor pleeggezinnen waar de dieren kunnen blijven tot er een definitieve plek voor ze is gevonden. 

Het IFAW heeft Animals Lebanon geholpen medische zorg te bieden aan pasgeredde huisdieren en de dieren die worden opgevangen in pleeggezinnen of in hun kleinschalige kattenopvang. 

Voor negen honden waren ze al enige tijd op zoek naar een nieuwe eigenaar.

Omdat in Libanon vooral grote honden heel moeilijk te plaatsen zijn, heeft ons team samengewerkt met Sweet Paws in Massachusetts om voor deze honden een plekje te vinden in de Verenigde Staten. 

Tijdens het werk in de dierenkliniek maakte ons team kennis met vier gehandicapte kittens waarvoor nog een eigenaar werd gezocht. Omdat het ook moeilijk is om een eigenaar te vinden voor katten die een pootje missen of blind zijn, besloten we dat we ook dit viertal niet konden achterlaten.

In de diavoorstelling zijn de dieren te zien die inmiddels in de VS zijn aangekomen en binnenkort naar hun definitieve adres gaan. De komende weken zullen we je op de hoogte houden!
