When abandoned Tiger Tajmir was seized by Czech authorities he was amaciated, injured and sick: Now he is starting a new life in Big Cat Sanctuary FelidaThe Netherlands

For ten years,  tiger Tajmir  was locked in a filthy cage, without care or protection. Starving and sick, he was confiscated in March 2025. His owner had abandoned him. Now, Tajmir is starting a new life at the FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary in Friesland, a safe haven where he will finally receive the care he deserves.

Starved and abandoned

A barren, filthy cage with no protection from extreme weather. That's where tiger Tajmir was kept illegally for over a decade. His story reflects the fate of countless tigers who fall victim to the ruthless wildlife trade.

When Tajmir was seized in March 2025, Czech authorities found him emaciated, injured, and sick. His owner had abandoned him after his property was auctioned off due to financial difficulties.

With the Big Cat Ambulance to the Netherlands

After a temporary stay at Liberec Zoo, where his recovery began, 12-year-old tiger Tajmir finally got a new beginning. He arrived at his new home: FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary, run by FOUR PAWS. A specialized team transported Tajmir by road from Liberec Zoo to FELIDA. During the journey, he was continuously monitored by a veterinarian and transported in the FELIDA Big Cat Ambulance. This specialized vehicle was equipped with temperature sensors, a secure transport cage, and on-board cameras.

Welcome home, Tajmir!

After a smooth 9-hour journey — with several check-up stops along the way — Tajmir reached FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary in the evening. Our big cat ambulance was fitted with a surveillance system, allowing the team and the vet to monitor him closely throughout the trip. The moment the crate door opened, Tajmir walked straight into his indoor enclosure — no hesitation, just curiosity.

He explored, checked out his hammock, and even enjoyed a few goodnight bites of meat from the caretakers. This kind of serene behavior right after arrival is rare for rescued animals — and it says a lot about Tajmir's character. We're truly impressed! For now, he'll stay indoors during his adaptation period. But don't worry — his space is filled with natural light, cozy spots to rest and recharge, and enrichment to keep him engaged. This time will also help the team build trust and get to know him better. And when winter comes, we're sure he'll appreciate the heated walls after more than a decade exposed to the harsh elements in Czechia.

Finally home!!

We can't wait to see him explore his outdoor habitat soon — complete with a pond, climbing structures, and plenty of room to play and just be a tiger. Welcome home, Tajmir. Your new life starts now.
